CertaClaim – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is a public adjuster - and why would I need one?

A public adjuster is a licensed professional who represents you, the policyholder, during an insurance claim. Unlike the adjuster sent by your insurance company, CertaClaim works exclusively for you - not the carrier. We inspect damage, document losses, interpret your policy, prepare estimates, and negotiate your settlement to ensure you receive a fair and accurate payout.

You may need CertaClaim if your property sustained significant:

  • Storm damage

  • Hail damage

  • Wind damage

  • Fire or smoke damage

  • Water or flood damage

  • Structural or contents loss

CertaClaim handles the stressful parts so you don’t have to.

Is CertaClaim licensed in Illinois?

Yes. CertaClaim is fully licensed in the State of Illinois as a public adjuster firm, with additional states coming soon. Illinois requires all public adjusters to be licensed - meaning training, examination, bonding, and regulatory oversight. You can always request our license number at any time.

How does CertaClaim get paid? Do I pay anything up front?

There are no upfront costs to hire CertaClaim. CertaClaim is compensated through a small percentage of the insurance settlement - only after we successfully recover funds for you. Illinois law requires all fees to be clearly written in the contract, and CertaClaim follows all state regulations and consumer protection requirements. No recovery = No fee.

What types of damage does CertaClaim handle?

CertaClaim specializes in all major property damage claims, including:

Storm Damage

Roofing, siding, windows, structural damage, tree impact, interior leaks, and all storm-related losses.

Hail Damage

Asphalt shingles, metal roofs, siding, gutters, windows, screens, trim, roofing systems, and structural hail impact.

Wind Damage

Torn shingles, missing shingles, uplifted roofs, debris impact, siding removal, exterior damage, and interior water intrusion.

Fire & Smoke Damage

Structural burns, charring, smoke infiltration, soot damage, HVAC contamination, odor removal, and personal property loss.

Water & Flood Damage

Foundation flooding, sewer backup, pipe bursts, storm surge, appliance failures, roof leaks, and interior water damage. If your property suffered damage - CertaClaim can help.

What does CertaClaim actually do during a claim?

When you hire CertaClaim, we handle every step of the claim, including:

  1. Full property inspection

  2. Detailed documentation of all damage

  3. Reviewing your insurance policy line-by-line

  4. Creating accurate repair/replacement estimates

  5. Preparing and submitting all claim documents

  6. Managing communication with your insurance company

  7. Negotiating your settlement

  8. Ensuring your property is restored to pre-loss condition

We take the pressure off you so you can focus on recovery.

Why shouldn’t I rely on the insurance company’s adjuster?

The insurance adjuster works for the insurance company - not for you.
Their job is to minimize the claim payout. CertaClaim’s job is the opposite: We work only for the policyholder, ensuring the damage is properly identified, fully documented, and fairly compensated.

Can I still speak to my insurance company if I hire CertaClaim?

Yes — but once you hire CertaClaim, the insurance company is required to communicate with us as your official representative. You can stay involved as much or as little as you choose, but CertaClaim handles the heavy lifting, deadlines, paperwork, and negotiation.

When should I hire CertaClaim?

Most policyholders contact us when:

  • The insurance estimate seems too low

  • The claim is delayed or denied

  • Coverage is being questioned

  • There is major damage (roof, siding, interior, fire, structural, water, etc.)

  • The insurer wants to repair instead of replace

  • The claim is too stressful or time-consuming to handle alone

CertaClaim also offers free claim reviews and inspections.

Does hiring CertaClaim guarantee a larger settlement?

No one can guarantee a specific dollar amount - but CertaClaim’s role is to ensure you receive every dollar your policy entitles you to. We bring construction knowledge, insurance expertise, and decades of experience to properly document and negotiate your claim. In many cases, our involvement leads to significantly higher settlements than the initial offer.

What should I do immediately after property damage occurs?

  1. Protect the property (tarp roof, stop leaks, cover openings).

  2. Take photos and videos of all damage.

  3. Do not discard damaged materials yet.

  4. Notify your insurance company.

  5. Contact CertaClaim for a free property damage assessment before you sign anything or accept a settlement.

Can I cancel a public adjuster contract in Illinois?

Yes. Illinois law gives policyholders the right to cancel within 5 business days after the insurer receives a copy of the contract. CertaClaim follows all Illinois consumer protection rules — no pressure, no hidden fees, and complete transparency.

How do I start the process with CertaClaim?

You can contact us any time for a free inspection or free claim review.
We will evaluate your damage, review your policy, discuss strategy, and determine whether representation makes sense. We make the process simple, stress-free, and transparent from start to finish.
